ai research assistant with citations

research

Published

Ask across your whole library and get answers cited to the exact paper and page, so you can verify before you cite.

Thirty-seven papers, one question, and the answer buried somewhere inside all of them. Constella gives researchers one research memory and an AI research assistant that cites every claim to the paper and page behind it.

How it works

  1. Capture everything. Save papers and preprints, PDFs and slides, web pages and threads, screenshots and figures, and your own typed or spoken notes. You can also import from Google Drive, so nothing you've already collected gets left behind.
  2. Ask a question. Constella starts with your whole library and finds the papers that matter by meaning, not just keyword matching.
  3. Get the passage. It drills into the exact passage, down to page six of a paper, and answers with the source behind each claim.
  4. Verify before you cite. Every answer links back to the exact source so you can check it yourself.

Built for how research works

Give each study its own assistant by writing its role, method, and guardrails in plain English. For example, tell it to only use papers in this project and to say when the evidence is mixed.

Two modes fit different questions:

  • Instant for quick lookups, like which paper used actigraphy (Paper C, with 112 participants).
  • Thinking for synthesis, like how three studies' designs differ and why one might show no effect.

Answers come from the sources you trust, not whatever ranks well online, built on Silverberry's Responsible AI by Design framework. It fits literature reviews, systematic reviews, grant writing, keeping up with a field, lab notebooks, and thesis work.

Share a project with your lab so everyone adds to the same memory, asks the same assistant, and keeps the method consistent. Learn more about Constella for researchers, see how reasoning search works, or read about trust and controls.
