Reasoning search across company data: how cited answers work
search
How reasoning search turns a plain question into an answer with sources attached, and when to use Instant versus Thinking mode.
Keyword search returns a list of files. Reasoning search returns an answer and shows where it came from.
What it does
You ask a question in plain language, such as "what did we quote Henderson last spring?" Reasoning search looks across your company memory, connects relevant items, and responds with the sources attached.
Two modes
- Instant: fast lookups when you know roughly what you need.
- Thinking: slower, more careful work for questions that span several documents or need comparison.
Why citations matter
Every answer links back to its origin: a quote PDF, a pricing page, a thread. You can click, check, and then act. That keeps people responsible for decisions rather than trusting a black box.
What makes answers better
- Well-captured sources through web memory capture.
- Strong connections in the knowledge graph.
- Permissions that limit results to what each person may see. See trust and controls.
